I did some electron microscopy recently. It is a very cool technique. An electron microscope uses a beam of electrons (as opposed to just normal light) to shine into the specimen.
This means that I can see the inside of a bacterial cell.
So what I did is I modified the DNA of a bacteria to trick it to produce the protein that I want it to make. And then once the bacteria starts making this protein, I placed it in Electron microscope and look at them.
The coolest thing is I found it to have some weird patterns and structures inside the cell. Some of these structures appear to look like a bee hive inside the cell, while others look like they have long hairs inside them!
