Bird flu are caused by viruses. The main reason why we had epidemic before it’s because the disease is highly contagious with birds. And therefore, when you have a farm of chicken, it can easily spread from one chicken to another.

The thing is viruses can mutate very quickly. Some of these viruses may not just infect birds but also humans. And therefore, there was a scare of bird flu epidemic (well, until now…).

To answer your question if bird flu ever going to come back… Bird flu never really “gone”. There are multiple different strains of bird flu that are (a) not contagious to humans, (b) may be affecting wild birds and not spread to humans, (c) some of these viruses are dormant and not affecting birds nor humans.
