      This can be true. If you get the chicken pox virus (varicella zoster virus) when you are a child then you don’t get very ill and then most develop antibodies which protect them for life – some won’t develop antibodies and are at risk of catching it again. Around 10-20% people get reactivation of the virus later in life and develop shingles.
      If you manage to avoid it as a child and get it later in life then chicken pox can be more serious and people can develop complications. These people may need to take anitviral drugs. Some people are particularly at risk: pregnant women, newborn children and people with suppressed immune systems.
