• Question: Hi Nathan, In australia what rock(s) is uluru (ayers rock) made up of and is it true it changes colour? if so why?

      Hi itch,

      I believe that Uluru is sandstone. I’ve never been to Ayers Rock myself (it’s quite a long way from Brisbane!), but I believe you are right that it appears to change colour. For example, it can supposedly almost glow with an amazing red colour at sunrise and sunset. But as far as I understand, this is just a “trick of the light”, in the sense that as the light around it changes, our eyes pick out different aspects of the colours that we see.
