Question: have you ever nearly drowned :O!

Even though I know how to swim really well, I did nearly drown once. I was sailing in a race when I was 16 and my boat nearly flipped over. I got thrown off the back but my legs were tangled in some ropes. This meant that I got dragged underwater behind the boat as the boat was still going forward. Thankfully one of my teammates realised and managed to rescue me, otherwise I may not have been here today!

Another time, I did the rescuing! I was at a the beach in Trinidad where not many people go. On this beach there is a small river which empties out into the ocean. I had just come in from surfing and was sitting on the beach with my board next to me, when I noticed two girls (they must have been about 12 years old) trying to cross the river with their bags. They didn’t realise how deep and fast the river was and obviously couldn’t swim very well so they were swept out into the sea! I quickly jumped on my board and paddled out to them. I told them to hold onto the board and then I carried them back to the beach and out of the scary currents. There wasn’t anybody else nearby so I’m glad I was there to save them. The only bad thing was that they lost their bags (with wallets, phones, books, towels etc.) in the ocean when they were trying to stay afloat.
