      Hi xtarax,

      No I definitely don’t think you would need to live in an area well-known for it’s marine life to be a marine biologist. I live in London now and that isn’t even close to the sea! A lot of the time research institutions aren’t close to the sea either. Scientists nowadays tend to do research all over the world, usually in more than one country, so they just fly to wherever they need to be. So far I have done research in Jamaica, the Bahamas and Trinidad. In December I will be going to the Antarctic and then back to Jamaica. I couldn’t live in all those places and so I usually just fly out for 1-3 months to do my work as do most other scientists that have field work.
