Hi Nikitaa13,
There are more stars in the universe than all the grains of sand on Earth, so space is an amazingly big place. I think that it’s selfish and hard to imagine that there is no other life out there, plus it’s more exciting to believe that there are!

I think it’s very hard to imagine that aliens don’t exist. The question is, given how wildly different environments and resources might be in different places in the universe, would we recognise them, if we saw them?
I think it’s likely that in the huge universe there are other conditions where life could exist and so yes there are probably other life forms out there. Whether they look like something in a blockbuster film is another question. I think they are much more likely to be something like an amoeba or other single celled organism – there could be things like us out there though – exciting!
In some ways, given how big space is, it seems very unlikely that our one obscure little rock “far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy” (to quote the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) is the only place where life managed to evolve.
What is interesting to think about, however, is would we recognise “aliens” if we saw them? Given how diverse and complex our universe is, the forms of life would probably be just as diverse and complex – just think about how many different types of life there are on Earth. What if we landed on a planet where there were intelligent rocks? Would we recognise them?

Good question, Nikitaa13, and good answer, Diva.
